News: Aquatic Industry Pros Debut New Association | February 2011

Several long-time aquatics professionals have come together to announce the formation of a new industry association.

The launch of the Association of Aquatic Professionals comes on the heels of the National Recreation and Park Association’s decision to merge its National Aquatic Conference into the annual National Congress.

“We want to provide a home for those aquatic professionals that maybe weren’t being served before, or maybe are saying ‘where do we go now?’”

Charter AAP memberships are now available to the first 100 for $40.

News: NRPA Announces End of Stand Alone NAC | February 2011

End of the adapted aquatics era?

Following the close of the 2011 National Recreation and Park Association’s National Aquatic Conference in San Diego last week, NRPA has announced that it will no longer hold an annual, stand-alone NAC show. Instead, it will become part of the annual NRPA National Congress, held each fall.

The move to do away with the separate aquatics conference comes following NRPA leadership’s decision last fall to do away with the old branch/section structure of the organization, which gave professionals the opportunity to organize in specialty areas, such as aquatics.

The new structure, the result of a comprehensive program review that began in the fall of 2010, is a network-based model, where members have the opportunity to interact in more loosely formed networks, based online.

The Chlorine in the Air May Be Worse than the Poop in the Water!

Indoor air quality is a big deal these days. Although eColi, Crypto and other nasty water-borne bugs get all the attention for making people sick, bad air may cause much more long lasting health effects.

New Aquatic Therapy Polyclinic Coming to South Carolina

We have a new polyclinic coming to the East Coast in March. Care Center in Greenville, SC, has signed up to host a Aquatic Therapy Polyclinic for Cerebral Palsy, Developmental Disabilities and the Medically Fragile Client.

The class meets on March 18-19, 2011 and will be taught by Kiki Dickinson, MPT.

Now all we have to hope for is that blizzard season will be done by then.
